Welcome to the BC Thanksgiving Virtual Food Drive!
Held by BC Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Greater Vancouver Food Bank was set up as a temporary relief to the hunger crisis in 1983 and has grown significantly in the four decades since then. Today we provide direct food assistance to more than 13,000 people every month across Burnaby, Vancouver, New Westminster, and the North Shore.
Last year, we supported 21,000 people: 26% were children and 14% were seniors. We have four specialized nutrition programs for children from birth to 12 years old and seniors.
In addition to direct food support, we also supply food to 118 community agency partners such as housing agencies, women and children's shelters, transition houses, and afterschool programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are homeless.
The GVFB received, purchased and distributed 8.1 million pounds of food last year. Our size, scale and unique position in the local food system equates to a significantly greater buying power than can be achieved at the grocery store, and can double each dollar donated, maximizing the impact of YOUR generous contributions.
Food insecurity unfortunately remains a very real issue today and has only been increasing since the beginning of COVID-19, especially now with the cost of inflation. Please help us fulfill our mission to provide healthy food to those in need and to support the increase in demand in your community. Everyone deserves to enjoy a nutritious and delicious meal this Fall. GVFB clients depend on your support.
Just click the 'donate' button at the top right to have a virtual shopping experience that lets you select healthy, nutritious foods for GVFB clients. You will receive a tax receipt with every online donation. Thank you for your support!
