2020 has been a tough year for many and with the holidays approaching, things will likely become far more difficult for many individuals and families alike. To give you an idea, the unemployment rate in July 2019 in Vancouver was at approximately 4.1%. Fast forward just 12 months in the midst of COVID to July 2020 where unemployment was estimated to have increased to13.3% ...!
Among many struggling industries, the Tourism and Hospitality sectors have been hit particularly hard whichalso happens to be the industry I've been a part of for my entire adult life. Its tough to see so many of my friends and coworkers, both past and present, having to adapt to a new financial normal.
There has always been a strong need for contributions to our food banks in order to support our communities. Unfortunately, 2020 has increased this need substantially. Every year I make an effort to donate to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank as best I can however this year, I wanted to take it a step further and host a Virtual Food Drive over the holiday season. For every $1 donated, the GVFB is often able to stretch it and purchase 2 to 3 times the amount of fresh, nutritious food you or I would usually purchase with the same amount!
What I'm asking is this. This holiday season, I'm hoping you could spare a few dollars to support the community in and around the Vancouver area who may otherwise go hungry this Christmas. In lieu of gifts, you can make a donation in a friend or family members name. Whatever you're able to contribute would be so helpful and very much appreciated.
Go on, click the green Donate button and help by contributing whatever you're able to this season.
