Getting to know Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) Your Community Food Bank
The Greater Vancouver Food Bank was set up as a temporary relief to the hunger crisis in 1983, but the need still exists today. GVFB receives no recurring government funding and exist solely through the generosity of the public, industry partners, and applicable grants. Each month, they provide healthy food to around 15,000 individuals and families in need and 150 Community Agency Partners across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the North Shore. GVFB mission is to provide healthy food to those in need.
GVFB Looking Ahead
Moving into our next year, they will maintain close collaboration with industry partners, donors, and supporters to address the growing need in our communities and across the province. Continue to explore creative methods to capture surplus food and minimize food waste, extend our support to other food banks, and experiment with food preservation. They will expand assistance to clients through wrap-around services, designed to provide employment and settlement support, and ultimately reduce the reliance on GVFB services.
